Revisiting Richmond

I had pondered for some time on what I would write about for our first of the year posts. I think a lot of us are struggling with predicting what 2025 has in store for us and it’s sort of a dimly lit path. I’m not a huge “resolution” fan, but I am an “out with the old, in with the new” one. Every year I write a list of things I want to accomplish, I even went so far as to do a vision board this year! I decided for 2025 to do a revisit RVA list. I think since Covid, I have felt quite detached from my city, and where I used to be out and about, talking to the locals and checking out new restaurants, I find myself a bit disconnected from my beloved city.
I decided to list some RVAcentric goals I have for 2025 that will possibly help my stuckness. I wanted to incorporate some new adventures in mind as a discovery mission. Here are my 13 hopes and dreams to accomplish in and around my city.
Ride my bike as far as I can on the Capital Trail and perhaps by year’s end to the entire path
Take a Moore Than Fitness class: I’ve been following Kate Moore for some time and she is truly a warm soul who has so many good things to say.
Go on a Trail Ride at Brandy Wine Farms: I keep putting this off, but seeing some of my friends moving out to the country riding horses has made me homesick for my Cajun trail riding family.
Visit the Museum of History and Culture: Yes, this is a shocking one, but I’ve never actually been there!
Since I have a love of architecture, I’d like to actually visit the Branch Museum of Architecture and Design.
Candlelight Concerts: I have a deep love of classical music and would love to experience this.
Have dinner again at Adarra in their new location, I need to try a philly from Stanley’s, do happy hour at Revel Market , have tea at Floris, drink wine at Gramophone, listen to jazz and have a cocktail at Goldwing, and some tacos at Juan More Taco.
Take a writing class at VMFA (didn’t know they did that!) or James River Writers, you would have thought I’d already done this considering how many pieces I’ve written!
I want, no I need to see Miramar perform again. It is sad it has been ages, but truly one of RVA’s sweetest treasures.
Sneaking off to Malvern Hill Battlefield to catch a meteor shower. Bring the whiskey and the blankets and it’s probably not legal, but definitely one of the most fun things I’ve not done in quite some time.
Take a Batteau & Co boat tour. I took one of the Canal cruises two years ago, but now I want a different James experience. Looks like a unique experience!
Camp at Peace Hill Farm. Had a lovely experience using HIpcamp to find nearby camping sites, so I want to try it again, but this time with animals!
Take as many photos of the Richmond murals I can. Since it’s destined that every site become a Pickleball destination, I’d like to take advantage of capturing as much RVA street art as I can. It’s been a goal of mine for some time.
What does your 2025 Richmond look like?
